The Optimum Shop Design Considering Construction and Processing Efficiency
2 STEP Optimize
-
To address the selection, classification and management of undersized steel bars which may be produced during processing, and the use of 10-16 mm wide rebars difficult to be recycled, we are devoted to reflecting standard lengths optimized for construction and processing in designing shop drawings. In the case of 19 mm or wider rebars, along with reflecting standard lengths, we closely cooperate with plants and sites in regard to prefabrication to enable on-demand production of steel, resulting in minimizing the loss rate of steel bars and maximizing constructability of sites and productivity of plants’ processing. Moreover, EXE-CONN, a web-based program developed by Daehan Steel, enables easy comparison of contractual amounts and actual amounts in real time.
1. By using the Execonn, we suggest value engineering based on structure standards and use shop simulation to optimize the amount needed.

2. DHS reviews the shop amount and then unifies members to optimize constructability by coordinating opinions among construction teams and builders.
- 1) The amount of rebar increases because rebar are produced to fit the longest one among various members. However, this is helpful in improving on-site constructability and productivity in processing plants. When this program is utilized for D10-16 mm wide rebar, an increase in supply can be reduced.
-
- 2) On the web, contractual amounts are compared with actual amounts in real time, enabling users to come up with detailed plans to reduce supply and eventually cut down on construction costs.

3. On-demand production through prefabrication reduces processing loss.
-
For example, when 10,000 of D25 5.2M rebars are consumed, and 10,000 EA of 0.3M items are left, About 11,940 kg (3,000 x 3.98kg) of losses are created. In this case, make-to-order manufacturing of 10.4M rebars can reduce processing losses. This happens mostly in relation to columns, vertical bars in walls, reinforced beams in upper and lower parts.
